The Story
Screw Lucy tells the astonishing true story of journalist Lucy Morgan, a stay-at-home mother turned investigative reporter who risked everything to expose the deep-rooted corruption of the Pasco County Sheriff’s Office. What began as a series of suspicious tips evolved into a relentless investigation that uncovered a criminal empire hiding in plain sight; protected by badges, fear, and silence.
Set against the neon-soaked, law-and-order mythology of 1980s Florida, the film chronicles Morgan’s lonely pursuit of the truth as threats mounted, allies vanished, and the phrase “Screw Lucy” became a rallying cry (and bumper sticker!) inside the sheriff’s department. Her reporting ultimately led to national reckoning, dismantled a revered institution, and earned Morgan a Pulitzer Prize, making her one of the first women ever to win the award for Investigative Journalism.
A story of courage, obsession, and the cost of telling the truth, Screw Lucy is a portrait of a woman who refused to back down; even when the system was designed to break her.
